hello, I'm not able to import from Relume into Figma [see attached] via the "Add Wireframe" cta. I've tried logging in and out of the Figma plugin, the dashboard, tried copying only one component (both a modified one or a stock one), tried copying from dashboard and Cmd+V into the plugin — I receive this error each time (I've previously successfully done this):
Error rendering wireframe. Please contact Relume support
**notably, if I try the "Add Sitemap" from the Figma plugin, that works just fine… I don't think it's user error, but please let me know if I can do anything to remedy as this is getting in my way of working on something right now — thanks!
Cesar are you importing using the Relume Figma Kit?
no, but that's how I'm resorting to manually resolving (by copying the components from the Figma Kit into my working file)
I've previously just been able to import via the Figma plugin, which creates a separate "Relume Components" page in my file
Cesar yeah, I'd be curious if you just duplicated the figma kit and tried to import into that file just to see if maybe that is the issue? Doing it the way you are doing it without the style guide only gets you the layouts, it does not apply the style guide styles within Figma. Even if you were able to import previously, you'd still lose this functionality. So its generally not advisable to just import into a file without the style guide.
Matt J. I just tried what you suggested by importing via the plugin into a duplicate of the latest Figma Kit (v.2.6). the plugin seems to actually import everything from Relume now (yay!), but the workflow still created a net-new "Relume Components" page in the Kit file...and only about 1% of the components are actual Figma components (boo!)
And these are new features that launched today so thats probably why its throwing you off
I see the logic here to map the Relume components to Figma components, but apart from being a significant change (for a detrimental experience to my personal workflow), in the scheme of the broader system of templates/components in the Relume Library and importing them into Figma, automatically detaching the components doesn't really make sense to me as it doesn't leverage the inherent design system features of Figma it seems like others are experiencing the same troubles with the change — if this was made for a legal or technical reason, that would be understandable. otherwise, it feels like a step backwards to how I was able to move from Relume to Figma to Webflow I spent a half day recreating a (Figma) componentized page today, where before that would have taken me seconds. I would urge you and the team to consider changing this back. thanks!
Cesar the fact that the layouts coming in not as figma components does not detach them from the design system. My workflow, along with many others have always been to detach the figma components as soon as they were placed. Figma styles and variables are at the core of the design system and buttons should remain as components. As you are designing sections, you can then turn them into localized components to use across your design. I hope this is making sense - if not, I’d be more than happy to record a loom video to demonstrate a few things mentioned above.
Couple of tips to help get you back to styling in seconds - you can select a section copy/paste it to a new page, turn it into a component, copy the new component, then head back to the page with your screens and you can select similar layers (I believe its cmd + option + A) and it’ll select all of those sections and then you can “paste to replace” (cmd + c) and now any section that is similar is now using your new localized component. The benefit to doing it this way is that you are not modifying the core component of the figma kit which can actually have some irreversible effects.
Depending on what im doing I’ll sometimes just create these localized components off to the side of the frame and move them later.
Cesar I also just want to make clear that my intention wasnt to side step your feedback. Really appreciate your feedback and opinion on this and if you have additional details to share around this, I would love to dive into it. Looks like we are on similar timezones so if you wanted to jump on a quick huddle in Slack we could do that as well. I can definitely understand how a change like this could disrupt a workflow.
