Fixing Navbar Position Above Background Image Without Affecting Dropdowns

How can I get the nav bar to sit on top of the background image without messing up the drop down menu on tablet and mobile. (I'm assuming it's because of the locations of the image and nav bar. See read only link for reference. I've also included a screen that shows the word "About". This text should be hidden behind the nav bar.
