https://rdl-semifinals-showcase-build.webflow.io/ had to share, my developer husband got excited about the RDL Duoair design, and actually built it (with Relume ofcourse). It's our first Spline experiment, and the result leaves to be desired in terms of performance! Do you have any tips that could help us figure out what we're doing wrong?
Raluca M. WOW! This is SO freaking cool. Thanks for sharing! As for performance - are you using the spline integration in Webflow? I love Webflow so much. I really really really do. So much. But unfortunately, they tend to fall a bit short with their integrations like this and the trade off of being able to easily do it is performance. Look at the google fonts - when you use the google font integration of Webflow in site settings, versus just pasting in the fonts api script and declaring the fonts manually, can sometimes be quite a bit different (at least this was the case a couple of years ago.) So thats the first thing I would look at - how can you embed this spline animation in a custom way so you have more control over the loading of it. Second thing I would look at, and research is if there is some way to signal to the browser which animations you want to load first - similar to JS with the defer and async declarations. I really have no idea if this is the case or not or if you can wrap these divs into something like that to help spread out the load a little for things that are above the fold versus below - if that makes sense. This is just a theory. Would be so awesome if anyone here has actual experience optimizing these things because its definitely a critical piece. Its great to have such killer animations and interactions but if its at the cost of performance to this extent, its almost not worth it!
Yes! If they're unusable there's no point in having such features.
Wow, this is really cool. I love how the text slides back and up on scroll
