Will relume publish have the ability to customize layouts completely or only adjust the existing components and the relume library?
Issac A. yeah I think that's a fair question. From my understanding as of today - we've put in some intentional guardrails on full on customizations, for a host of reasons. They are the same core principles that drove how we built editing in the Relume Site Builder (Relume Export).
Default great - as a designer/developer/marketer you can never miss. We've done the heavy lifting of thinking about every pixel.
Fast, less decisions
Simple
If we allowed full customizations - one or more of these core principles would suffer. I do think that with feedback, we'll continue to open up what is possible to customize, so I am by no means trying to muzzle this kind of feedback - I think its really important we understand where this line is, and its early - we had to start somewhere - we've set the line - so help us decide where this line should really sit. Does that make sense?
Oh yes, I get it. Forgive me as I don't get much sleep, I've always realized the intention behind reload and how the product is so efficient performs and provides consistent results. So I guess what I meant is that can you add some things within a structure without having to change the entire component like bullet points under an existing stack of a say H3 subhead and text I think buttons are probably standard across most components but little things like that is what I meant to ask for. I might be missing something but even some cases where say having a container on the right for a badge or the graphic would be nice, something to work within the current system but again adding to it.
Issac A. ah yes, totally understand the sleep part - phew what a week! So yeah, I've definitely seen this in demos - we call them component slots - we have huge matrix databases matching all the possibilities. From my understanding, we had to narrow our scope to get to beta. We have a pretty large list of components that are actively being developed. You can see the component slot concept already in play for a couple of pieces - for hero with a tagline and the button group when you hover over it, it highlights a darker blue - that's a slot - and you can swap it out for something else that fits there. This slot concept applies to quite a few components in the system today.
so yeah, I see this expanding exponentially as we get through our roadmap
That sounds great and yeah I'm still getting used to the new publish platform but it's already fire, I'm loving it
I think that'll mostly achieve my goals
