I'm trying to create a sort of drag and drop web builder with our Figma components is this possible? I want the UI to be very non-technical non-designer friendly for our project managers and I want the figma components to stay linked to their master components in case any changes are made
Payton K. yeah so our figma components don't import into Figma as figma components for a lot of reasons. So you would create those components yourself. I think Figma just released component slots as well, so this actually serves perfectly the use case you are wanting. Even if the import did bring them in as components, they wouldn't be setup the same way as you would want them so its not really an extra step. But overall, I would say that what you are trying to do - is a very common pain point that a lot of organizations are trying to do - and by a lot I mean, thousands. I would dig into and get comfortable making figma components, variants, and learn the new component slots. Explore it a bit. You won't get it right on the first try - so just expect to do a couple of quick spikes on it. Then once you feel confident, take it to the real-world applications for Relume components and start laying some things out. Another thing to keep in mind, the initial import will save you a lot of time sure, but any additional imports after that might override any changes you make or cause more work. So my suggestion here would be to use the figma plugin for its paste feature - where you can copy an entire page or section in the site builder and paste it into the plugin and it'll render it on the figma canvas. Then from there you can do your process for converting it into a component, variants, assign it to a slot or whatever you have found to be the process to make it work for you. If you have specific questions or blockers - I'd love to dive in and learn more about how this all comes together more myself so I'd be happy to help where I can!
