I've got a 30-35 page site built on an older version, whats the smartest way to rebuild it on the current version? would be nice if there were a way to import it 1 for 1 into the site builder.
Chris W. yeah great question - I also love how you said "smartest" way. Not sure I have the answer on the smartest way - and I also don't think my answer is the quickest either. I guess it really depends on what the goals are for rebuilding. If its just to get it up to date and on a solid foundation, then I would likely just be using the chrome extension and adding components that way. I could see some value in possibly rebuilding the wireframes in Relume and then adding a custom style guide, then importing into Webflow but I dont know how many components were customized. For me, if I were in your shoes and didn't want to miss anything or make my life harder, I would literally just go page by page, section by section. OLD school! Once I had the site rebuilt - I would then maybe consider creating any new pages in Relume that I could then import if I wanted. Curious if anyone here in the community has done this before and might have some tips?
Thanks for the thoughtful answer Matt. I just got hired full time with this company I built the site for. I'll be adding to it, and trying to keep improving and fine tuning it. I also plan to optimize it based on analytics and feedback to make it as effective as possible. All things I've yet to do it previously.
ah yeah with that context, I would definitely approach it the way I mentioned in my opinion. You'll likely have less back and forth or missing details, ya know?
True, I have it built out in the builder, and have had some fun playing with the new designer. But rebuilding it completely might not be worth it. Unless, I could use it as a good case study for the process.
what version is the current site on?
good question..how can I check that quickly
2.1
hopefully there's some mention of it on the style guide page
sorry, that was easy
haha
2.1
okay yeah it might be worth still rebuilding because 3.0 or newer you can use the webflow app to import pages in the future
so if you were to fast forward, you could collaborate with the team in Relume on new pages, copy, etc. Import into Webflow, make final edits, styling etc.
you also wouldn't have to worry about making sure your library/extension preferences are set correctly so that you dont run into the "unknown variables" issue.
right, thats good to have. Right, I was getting that, it was pretty easy to fix by resetting them, but maybe that screwed things up..didnt look that way though
I'd also like to build a brand guidelines doc in the new site. Ever done that?
Should be pretty easy I imagine. I used one from a template before, and just hosted in my plan. But, would be ideal to have on their actual site so they could access it there
yeah, I've attempted a brand guideline doc a few times - within Webflow it can get pretty tedious - especially to maintain. I think if anything...the process of creating a brand guideline by hand like that though, helps you ground yourself in those details if that makes sense. Its a lot like reading something and then writing it down yourself - the act of writing it down yourself just further cements the details in your mind.
