I’ve noticed a strange discrepancy on Contra: there are only 41 Relume Experts, yet there are 700+ of verified Webflow Experts. This is counterintuitive, considering Webflow has a steep learning curve while Relume is designed for speed and accessibility. Relume is so intuitive that even those without a technical background can master it. In fact, I’ve seen copywriters build better sitemaps in Relume than seasoned developers using the tool on a regular basis. This raises a fundamental question: What actually defines a Relume Expert? Currently, the criteria feels narrow. If Relume is the bridge between marketers, designers, and developers, why does the “Expert” tag feel gatekept by technical implementation?
Relume isn’t just a component library, it’s a multi-tool. How about the Strategists & Copywriters who use the AI builder as a high-level whiteboard to map out user journeys and narrative flow. Brand Designers who use Relume for pitches and concepts in record time. Product Managers who uses Relume as a rapid MVP or proof-of-concept tool.
Is Relume just a bridge to Webflow and React, or is it a standalone powerhouse? If I use Relume to revolutionize a client’s strategy but don’t touch a line of code, am I still an expert? We need to decide if being a Relume Expert requires being a Webflow Expert, or if we can finally recognize the strategists, architects, and visionaries who use the tool to build the “brain” of a website before a single pixel is moved.
If Relume’s mission is to be the “starting point of every web project,” then the “Expert” badge shouldn’t just be a trophy for Webflow developers, it should be a certification for anyone who has mastered the art of the accelerated workflow.
To me who built a lot of websites alreadt powered by Relume… This one here is the biggest barrier.
I deployed Relume-based websites using Framer and WordPress ever since I discovered the platform. Even if I don’t use webflow and the webflow componetns as my core platform, I feel like it’s worth it as a part of my process. I just can’t justify to my clients that I live and breath relume in my workflow because I don’t use Webflow not until they see my Figma design file 🤣
Just a thought… I’m not here to scrutinize the platform. I’m just a long-time customer who want to share his long-term feedback.
Recommendations Relume Expert Certification should be categorized into 3: Strategists, Designers and Developers
Henson M. such a great topic to bring up and you make some really great points. Some of the same questions we had. I think the Relume Expert program started around the same time as the Webflow and Finsweet expert programs and I think we just followed suit with the technical implementation requirements and it served its purpose at the start but like you said, everything has evolved now and so should the program. This is why we have essentially had the program paused for about 6-8 months now and its looking like it'll be at least another 3-4 before its actively being reviewed again. One idea around this that I've been working on is having a very transparent rubric - similar to Webflow's template marketplace requirements. As a candidate, you'll know exactly what you'll be graded on before you've even submitted for an expert application. You've definitely left a lot to think about here and we really appreciate your feedback around this - thank you so much for taking the time to write in about this and I can feel your passion for this too. Thank you Henson! We're lucky to have somebody like you in our community.
