Why do the style guide exports in Figma not update the color variables?

Jayr M. so the variables themselves (values) update, but yeah the labels within the style guide don't update. Which is obviously not ideal.

It's a bug we are aware of but unfortunately in the perspective of everything else we have, not super high priority. I do understand how painful it is to update these, and how you'd like to use the style guide as a deliverable - so as soon as we have resources available to tackle this bug, I'll definitely be sure to make it happen.
