@channel Hey Lumers! We're looking for feedback on our current approach to Webflow Variables 🎨 Is this you?

  • You've used variables on at least x3 Webflow projects

  • You have some strong feedback you'd like to share

  • Or maybe you even have your own Webflow Variables system that you think works better.

We want to hear from you! Please DM for more info and I will share a link to book in a time 🙂

I don't fit the number of projects but I would love to see modes applied to variables, (dark, light mode for colors, etc..)

I have tried the Lumos framework for a couple of projects, and I must say I love the variables-approach to development, it is especially powerful when combined with custom attributes ⭐ Excited to see what Client-First and Relume will do in the future in regards to variables

I don't have tons of Webflow experience but I have a lot in Figma. Recently we adopted a massive colour system and UI elements into relume's styleguide. Adapting and slightly changing the grouping of colours or elements wasn't that hard because Relume's system fitted many ways already. However I was really frustrated of Webflow's interface. I mean reorder the the variables not possible and there is no alphabetical option either. 😅 Maybe a plugin to solve this? Dunno Generally "modes" was the only missing part for our project but it's not a dealbreaker. Overall I enjoy to use Relume's starter file and I always redesign the whole thing to match the projects guidelines. So satisfying 🤙

Not sure if I can help, let me know if you want to pick my brain! For context: Outside of no-code

    • Worked on several AAA design systems within both Leadgen and Saas websites.

    • With design systems I mean full team systems that are used by multi-disciplines. Not a 'pattern library' in Figma or a system that is created for a 1 man army.

    • Led a couple of teams for AAA brands that were focused on only working and improving a design system.

    Within no-code

    • Setup 3+ variable systems from Figma to Webflow

    Biggest struggles

    • Naming conventions. I'm used to BEM and camelCase

    • Seems that a lot of systems focus on adding more custom code. Hopefully you guys stay away from that lane.

You know where to find me!

Thanks guys! This is great. Jordy v. Ádám S. Øyvind H. Derek R. Hal Z. These insights are for helping us develop our Style Guide Builder project which is highly important that we get colors right 🙂 Will DM!

I have found that when converting old projects that wasn’t started on the relume styleguide to have some issues with the black and white color. I’ve tried multiple times, to setup a variable identical to the one in the style guide but without luck. It would be great if it was we could decide to overwrite/convert the black and white to a variable within the project

That's a great point Aleksander K. and we want to resolve this pain point as well. The reason it will have issues is because we are syncing with the Variable ID, not the name. And there's no way of changing the variable ID that I'm aware of. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Aleks!
