Cloning the Relume Style Guide and Manually Integrating it into an Existing Project

At a glance

A community member tried to add the Relume style guide to an existing project, but encountered issues with the Relume Webflow App, which required the latest style guide. The official recommendation is to rebuild the project from scratch, as adding Relume to an existing project can be complex. However, a community member suggested a workaround by adding "Relume Style Guide v3.0" to the meta description of the style guide page, which worked to a certain extent. Ultimately, the community members concluded that building from scratch is the best way to use Relume in an existing project.

Hey Relume Team, a while ago I had posted about how to use Relume in a project that was not initially setup with cloning the Relume style guide, below was the response. Today I tried out adding Relume to an existing project by cloning the Relume Style Guide into a new project, and copying the page-wrapper from the style guide page and paste it into the primary project.
I tried installing, re-installing the Relume Webflow App, and I keep getting: You need the latest Relume Style Guide to import. (See Attached)

Hey! Caleb, the official recommendation is to rebuild and start fresh with a new project and this decision typically depends on the size and complexity of your website project.
1) For small and basic sites
Rebuilding from scratch is recommended as it avoids hassles with renaming/formatting classes
But remember one thing. If you choose to add Relume to an existing project
you can
1) Clone the Relume Style Guide into a new project
2) Copy the page-wrapper from the style guide page and paste it into your primary project
3) Manually replicate the variables from the cloned project
4) Manually link variables to components when copying them in

Yeah since releasing the style guide builder, using the app with this type of setup is no longer possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Can still copy/paste pages from site builder, or copy individual components from the extension or webflow library

Okay thanks for the info on that. Is Relume working on a feature that would be possible to import into an existing project with the Relume Webflow App?

Its a webflow limitation otherwise we would have loved to have that ability for sure.

Hi, @Caleb Anderson (flowdevs)
If you're having trouble getting the Relume app to work in a Webflow project where you manually set up the style guide, this little trick might help:

  1. Go to the Page Settings of your style guide page.
  2. In the Meta Description field, type:
  3. Relume Style Guide v3.0
  4. Save the page as a draft.
  5. Then just relaunch the Relume app.
That should do the trick! Let me know if it works for you 😊
