Background Video Component Issue on iOS with Low Power Mode

At a glance

The community member is experiencing an issue with a background video component on iOS devices when low power mode is enabled. The video does not play automatically, a play button is displayed, and the play button cannot be clicked. This issue has been reproduced on several iPhones. The expected behavior is for the play button to not be visible and the video to play automatically.

Other community members have commented that this is an iOS-related issue, not a Webflow or Relume issue. When iPhones are in low power mode, they stop videos from autoplaying. There does not seem to be a real way to avoid this behavior, as it is a choice made by Apple. One community member shared a link to a related discussion on the Webflow forum.

The community members acknowledge that this is a tricky issue, especially if the video has an overlay. They suggest that users will have to "live with it" unless someone can provide a solution.

Useful resources

Hi,

I am having an issue with the background video component:

On IOS > chrome > when low power mode is enabled:

1. The video doesn't play automatically
2. The play button is displayed
3. The play button cannot be clicked

Could reproduce on several iPhones.

Expected behavior:
The play button should not be visible and the video should play automatically.

Is anyone having the same issue? Not sure if it's Relume or webflow related, to be honest.

Unfortunately there's no real way of avoiding this. When iPhones are on low power mode they stop videos autoplaying. It's the IOS doing this, not Webflow/Relume.

Thanks ! Kinda tricky to fix then if the video has an overlay....interesting choice from apple

It is! Just have to live with it 🥹 or if anyone has a solution, please let me know haha
