Webflow Variables and the Impact on Relume Components

At a glance

The community member has started using Relume components in their Webflow build-out, which are based on the Finsweet Client-First methodology. However, they have learned that Webflow has released Variables, which may impact the need for the layers in the Client-First methodology. The community member has questions about whether the updates to incorporate Webflow native variables will be reflected in the Relume library components, and if there will be an easy way to update the components they are already using in their Webflow projects without breaking them. The community member wants to be able to shift to using Webflow Variables eventually, as they find the Client-First methodology redundant and confusing.

Hi, I have started using Relume components in my Webflow build-out. As I modified the components and sought to make new ones, I realized they were using the Finsweet Client-First methodology. However, I just found out that Webflow released Variables this year, which will greatly impact the need for all those layers in the Client-First methodology. I’m sure Client-First will eventually introduce an update to incorporate Webflow native variables, but here are my questions:

  1. Will those updates come down into the Relume library components?
  2. Will there be a way for us to easily update the components we already use in our Webflow projects without breaking out projects? I want us to be able to shift to Variables eventually since I presently find the Client-First methodology very redundant and confusing.
