Hello all! I have a problem that's happening on two different websites with a background video component, Header 33. The background video is set to autoplay, and they do autoplay on desktop, but on mobile, these videos are not playing at all. Even worse: the play button is displayed in addition to the video not playing - even though the setting for play button is unchecked.
My website is https://www.hypermax.net/
Still waiting for a solution.
I think it's a general issue with background videos playing on mobile. I noticed one major web design agency website has a background video on desktop but just a still version on mobile.
For now, just replaced the mobile version background video with an image.
Its generally best practice to do an image on mobile anyway but this sounds like default behavior of Webflow, since we're only using the native video elements with these components.
is there a way to make the video play on mobile? My client has video production as a service on his website and has asked if it can be set to play.
as mentioned, by default Webflow doesn't autoplay videos. You'd have to use a custom solution to override this behavior - it might even be up to the user of the device though - its more of a user experience thing - as badly as your client might want to autoplay video - ultimately the user of the device should have control over this regardless.
However, I do know one "workaround" to all of this is to load videos as background videos (my statement above is still true) but its a bit of a different implementation than a video player (no controls) - and you can auto play videos with no audio. I would search youtube for "webflow background videos" and you'll find at the top of that list a video by Timothy Ricks who walks you through this exact technique. Hope that helps!
