Has anyone created a media or editorial type layout connected to CMS post types with something similar to https://www.relume.io/components/gallery-10 using finsweet attributes? I have a site build coming up that wants to utilize different media posts (video, podcast, blog) as more of an editorial masonary layout. I'm hoping to have something more dynamic or off-grid than the basic or the post slider.
Any advice or examples would be awesome!
you would most likely need to have multiple collections - and you'd probably be better off using the new "Quick Stack" element in Webflow.
I could record a quick video for you tomorrow if that's helpful on how I would approach it but in general, its possible.
That would be awesome! I can also look at webflows documentation and youtube if you don't have time.
are you wanting specific media to be in a specific slot of the masonry - consistently or?
I was wondering if it could be dynamic to be "most recent" I found some videos where they're using static elements. I'm still media planning to determine if all the media will be in one CMS collection with designated tags or categories for media type, or if each media type will be in a seperate CMS collection since they may need different template pages.
Definitely open to recommendations. Obviously, a standard slider may be easier, but they want the media collection to be the hero section on the home pages so I was looking for a more aesthetic layout.
okay so in some cases then maybe - you could have 3 images in a row, a podcast, and a video - and in another month maybe you have 2 videos in a row, 2 images, and a podcast?
Yeah, ideally it would populate the most recent item regardless of the media type. They do sometimes multiple interviews or shows per week. It will probably be updated biweekly or a couple times a month.
Okay - yeah I would say that if its all one collection it'll be easy enough - not much would need to change really. https://relume.notion.site/Adding-CMS-collections-to-components-87b982f78cac406aba9e71a9974efc36?pvs=4
You could run into issues if the thumbnails for these media types are not formatted correctly - I dont know off hand what would make them "correct" so I would play around with that first. I would avoid having text in the thumbnails.
If you need them to be in separate collections, I think you may run into some issues here - if I were doing this, I would likely pick a slot for each category of content - so lets say there are 5 categories - I would have 5 collections and I would basically place those collections where the current lightbox is and nest the lightbox within the collection item and then limit the collections to 1. You "could" have multiple slots of the same category and limit them to 1, start at 1 (2, 3, 4) etc.
Not sure on your level of Webflow experience - my intention is not to "talk over you" so if you are unclear on what I mean above just let me know and I can provide some visuals to help!
Okay, I think I'm tracking. I guess if there was a "most recent" for each collection set I could use slots inside the quick stack container?
My only worry about using categories (although it would be cleaner) is a podcast will need a different page type than a video interview or a blog post. Can I have multiple page templates inside a single CMS collection? I'm about a year into webflow from Wordpress. Still trying to wrap my head around CMS strategically π
