Webflow localizations for country and language options

At a glance

The community member is asking if Webflow Localizations can handle a site that localizes by country and also gives language options for each one. They have a client who needs a selector with 5 countries, and each country should have two language options.

In the comments, another community member responds that Webflow Localization does not provide the ability to have two separate dropdowns for countries and languages. However, they suggest that with some custom JavaScript, it may be possible to have a dropdown for the 5 countries, and when a country is selected, the second dropdown would toggle the language options for that country.

The original poster then responds that they believe the client wants each country to be a separate site with its own localization (language). The suggested approach is to use a reverse proxy and have 5 sites, each with its own localization, but the community member notes that this would be a maintenance challenge.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know if Webflow Localizations can handle a site that localizes by country and also gives language options for each one?
I’ve got a client who needs a selector with 5 countries, and each country should have two language options.

Thanks a lot!

two separate dropdowns might be the biggest challenge with this because Webflow Localization does not think about languages in this way - so they only provide a single dropdown.

However, with some custom JS - you could probably get this done if you have a dropdown with the 5 countries, and if you select one of those countries it toggle the options within the second drop down with only those languages - I would "think" thats possible.

But the simple answer is that - no webflow localization does not have the ability to handle that level of complexity from my experience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, !
I believe they want each country to be a separate site (different content)... The best approach I could think of is using a reverse proxy and having 5 sites, each with its own localization (language), while letting them know it’ll be quite a maintenance challenge, haha

Thanks again!
