Using the Google Maps element: Your account or the client's?

At a glance

The post asks whether to use one's own account or the client's account to get the Google Maps API key. Community members discuss the pros and cons of each approach. Some suggest having the client set up their own API key to avoid billing issues, while others mention using the simple Google Maps embed instead of the API integration. There is also discussion around embedding Google reviews on a website, with community members sharing their opinions on the best practices for displaying reviews, such as hand-picking a few reviews rather than showing an exhaustive list.

When using the GoogleMaps element, would you use your own account to get the API key or use the clients account?

I usually have them set up an API key so that it won't bill to my account depending on their traffic volume in the future. But I put mine in during the development phase so they can see what it will look like.

Smart. Thank you

Yeah also I stopped using the API integration. Its a bit too complex and I end up just using the simple embed google provides which seems to work fine for most.

where do I find that embed?

so cool! Thank you

is there a simple way like this to embed google review on a website?

I would want new review to update when they are added.

I'm not aware of one. Generally for reviews I want to be hand picking them for a website anyway, rather than having any review show up on a website automatically.

I hear what you mean. I will bring that point up to my client. Is there a way to embed specific reviews?

naw, I usually just use the webflow CMS and copy/paste them in manually. 5-10 rotated out every 2-3 months seems fine for most businesses. The purpose of a review is for social proof and credibility - not to be an exhausted list of reviews. You could always just show 2 or 4 or whatever and link to the google reviews page directly from that section.

these are just my opinions and processes for working with clients and reviews, take them as such. πŸ˜‰

100%. My client wants a full page of reviews, so this is a little different
