The Formatting Challenges of Copying Markdown into a CMS RTF Field

At a glance

The community member is having trouble copying and pasting Markdown content into a CMS RTF field, even though the Webflow docs say they support Markdown. Other community members suggest that the issue may be due to additional characters being added by the Obsidian app, where the content is being copied from. They recommend trying to copy from the browser instead, or using the standard WYSIWYG options within Obsidian. One community member also suggests using Obsidian's view mode rather than edit mode, which they say worked for them.

When I copy paste markdown into a CMS RTF field, it doesn’t format it correctly, but the Webflow docs say they support markdown. Does it only work if I manually type it into the box?

where are you copying the content from? Like what app is it coming from?

I was copying out of Obsidian 🤷 It works if I copy out of the browser, so I’ve just stuck to that for now

yeah im guessing Obsidian is adding additional characters to the paste that would not be detectable. I am able to copy from Notion into a rich text field just fine.

I would also just try formatting using the standard WYSWIG options within Obsidian and see if you can just copy and paste that into the rich field - using markdown might just be over-doing it.

I just saw a comment on reddit suggesting to use Obsidian’s view mode (rather than edit mode) - I just tried that and it did work 👍

Thanks for the help Matt!
