Swapping out components in Figma after detaching them

At a glance

The community member is a newbie who is having trouble swapping out components in Figma after working in Relume. They are unable to change the layouts without starting over or manually pasting in components and swapping out the content. The community members suggest using the Figma kit library to search for and replace components, as well as using Figma features like "paste to replace" and "multi-edit" to swap out components more efficiently. There is no explicitly marked answer, but the community members provide suggestions on how to work with detached components in Figma.

newbie here...is it possible to swap out the components in Figma now that they are no longer attached? I tried to do most of my edits in relume but now as I'm designing out the wireframe I'm realising I'd like to change some of the layouts, and I can't figure out how without having to start again or individually pasting in the component and manually swapping out the content. Is there a simple way to do this? Also, where I had global instances in relume - they are no longer connected in figma...is there a way to fix this?

If you started your figma project using our Figma kit - you can search for any component available in our library right within Figma. If you haven't started from our Figma kit, i would highly recommend doing so for this reason.

For more details on the detached components you can see this FAQ here. We also went into detail on this in a couple of our #C07LCP9PJUA sessions - recordings are in the Canvas (tab at the top of slack).

Thanks, I did start from the Figma kit, I am just wondering if there is a simple solution to swapping out the components. I have worked around it by copying a layout from the library and pasting to replace, but this is not the best solution as it affects the entire layout spacing

shift + i allows you to search the entire figma kit library for components. You can make quick edits in Site Builder and reference what component is being used and then searching for that in the figma kit - regardless of our change with the detached components, this would have been the process any way.

right click "paste to replace" - multi-edit allows you to select matching layers to swap out the same section for a local component. These are all features of Figma that I would do a bit more research on to be able to move quickly in Figma.
