Relume's Component Architecture: Exploring the Grid Widget Preference

At a glance

The community member has been using the Relume platform and noticed that many components are built using the Grid widget instead of the Flex Stack widget. They find grids difficult to use and are asking why this design choice was made. The other community members explain that the majority of the components were created before the Flex Stack widget was introduced, and that grids had better browser support at the time. They acknowledge that Stacks are easier to use and say they are re-assessing their approach to improve the platform in the future. There is no explicitly marked answer, but the community members provide helpful context and feedback.

I've been using Relume for a couple days now and I'm noticing a lot of the components are built using the Grid widget instead of the Flex Stack widget. Can anyone shed some light in to why? I just find grids very hard to use.

majority of the components were created before the flex stack was introduced, i would say is the main reason. I tend to agree that stacks are easier to use for sure. Something I'm sure we could put on our list to improve in the future.

I had a feeling that was the case. Not a big deal. Thanks for your response.

Great question man, and yes Matt is correct there. Also, there previously was better browser support for grid πŸ™‚ We're re-assessing our entire approach and constantly wanting to make it better so if you ever have any suggestions please do feel free to sing out!

Btw, great to have you here! Welcome to the Relume community 🀠
