Redesigning a WordPress Site with WebFlow and Relume

At a glance

The community member is redesigning a WordPress site using WebFlow and Relume, but has encountered a challenge with the e-commerce functionality. They found that WebFlow's e-commerce does not support subcategories within categories, which is a common requirement for e-commerce sites. The community member explored Smootify, which integrates Shopify with WebFlow, as a potential solution. However, they are hesitant to add Shopify to the mix, as one of the reasons they want to move away from WordPress is to avoid managing and updating plugins.

In the comments, another community member expresses interest in the issue, and the original poster provides an update. They have looked further into Smootify/Shopify and found that Shopify's collections can create the desired category/subcategory structure. However, they have encountered another issue with selling digital download products, as Shopify's app for this feature does not work well, leading to the need for a paid third-party app. This has resulted in a higher monthly cost compared to their current setup on WordPress with WooCommerce.

The community members discuss potential solutions, such as checking if WebFlow has updated its e-commerce functionality to support subcategories, or using a "hacky fix" by treating subcategories like "authors" for a blog. However, there is no explicitly

I'm well on my way to redesigning a WordPress site with WebFlow and Relume, but I may have hit a snag. The site combines a blog with e-commerce.

From what I have found, WebFlow ecommerce does not support subcategories of categories, such as, mens/shoes, mens/tshirts. (i.e., category/subcategory). Most of the information I found is several years old, so maybe it's outdated. Category/subcategory seems like a pretty standard requirement for an ecommerce site.

When I searched ecommerce here, I came across Smootify which integrates Shopify with Webflow. It looks it would do what I need. But one of the reasons I want to move off of WordPress is to get away from managing and updating plug-ins which is practically an everyday thing in WordPress.

Does anyone know if Webflow ecommerce now supports category/subcategory?

Did you ever get a response to this..?

I’m pretty curious as I’m prepared to sell eComm sites but haven’t yet.

I did not. Since I asked the question, I've looked further into Smootify/Shopify. Smootify looks great. As I understand it, Shopify collections will create the category/subcategory structure. I wasn't too thrilled with adding Shopify into the mix but figured that it's the leading ecomm platform so I started down that road. Got my shop setup and Webflow, Smootify, and Shopify connected. But hit another snag.

I'm selling digital download products. While Shopify supports this, according to the reviews, their app doesn't work. Which leads to a paid 3rd party app. Now I'm looking at a fairly high monthly cost to do what I am already doing on Wordpress with Woocommerce. I hate it because I really want to get away from WordPress and the constant (almost daily) plug-in updates, and fingers crossed that an update doesn't break something.

wow sorry for the late reply, but that is wild. Are you sure Webflow hasn’t updated their eComm to provide subcategories? That sounds like a fairly simple thing.

A hacky fix might even be to build them yourself with Template Pages. Treat a subcategory like an “Author” for a blog. Does that make sense?

I also hate WordPress and would love a smooth solution to this. If you don’t mind sharing a read only link to your site, I’d like to poke around. Or maybe you’ve solved it by now and I will learn from the guinea pig! Thanks dude!
