Familiarizing Yourself with Figma Design Tools

At a glance

The community member has exported a wireframe website to the Figma design platform and is trying to learn how to use the design tools. The comments suggest that while YouTube tutorials can be helpful, they may move too quickly for the community member's needs. The community members discuss various Figma learning resources, including YouTube channels, Figma's official documentation, and a Relume walkthrough video. They emphasize that learning Figma takes time and persistence, and that paying for a course can provide a shortcut, but it is possible to learn without paying. The community members also discuss the Shift Nudge course, but note that it may not be the best recommendation for the community member's current needs.

Useful resources

I exported a wireframe website for my business to the figma design platform. But i'm trying to learn how to get familiar with the design tools in figma.

I think you are asking for a unicorn. Happy to help with any specific issues but as Amid mentioned, youtube will be your best bet for learning on your own. There is no shortcut way of doing it unless you have the money to pay for it, unfortunately there's no free shortcut.

As for Relume specifically and how to get started with it, I have done a full walk through but I will say its not intended really to be for brand new figma users. But here it is anyway. its an hour and 30 minutes long...rough draft. It might give you some insights https://relume.notion.site/Using-the-Relume-Site-Builder-Full-Walk-Through-409e549d44594f0986c7b3453d93a5e4?pvs=4

I'm not looking for a shortcut. I'm looking for easier and less complex way of doing this youtube is not working for me.

They move through there training entirely to fast and there all over the place.

That's what I'm saying that video. You just sent me is like you're going so fast. It's hard for me to keep up.

have you tried slowing the video down? I'm afraid my walkthrough might not be helpful either because I've received feedback that I was moving too fast as well.

I guess I will try to slow the video down.

I'm not looking for any shortcuts.I just want to learn how to do this without it being way too complex

yeah, we're in the middle of actively re-shooting a more official version, hoping to have something out there in the next few weeks

Don't get me wrong.I love both platforms.I just need to learn how to navigate In the figma design platform.

I'm trying to make my website look good although i'm not as advanced as most of you guys but i'm getting there.

I'm trying to build a website for my medical courier business.

I'm trying to add animations photos to the works.

those would be all the channels I would watch, and a couple of practical starting points for Figma.

I would say that in order to meet your goal of "make my website look good" - you'll likely need at least 20-40 hours of hands on, and about 8-16 hours of watching youtube before you'll start down the right path of making a website look good.

Relume can help a lot with that as well but to your point, you need to be able to move around Figma/Webflow first.

Its not a "watch a couple of videos, spend a couple of hours" type of thing unfortunately

but with consistency, and persistence, it is 100% possible for you Michael - I believe in you! I'm self-taught. I've learned everything I know from Youtube and google. It is absolutely possible for you to make this happen for your business.

Right now i'm just trying to design my webflow wire frame in figma

I'm just trying to build my website for my business

As far as some of those YouTube channels you sent me.Those are some of the ones I was having issues with

yeah, I get that, you are not trying to make a career out of building websites

I do want to make a career out of building websites but i'm trying to build my website up for my medical delivery business first

Just trying to take everything one step at a time

ah okay good, then those are all of the youtube channels that you need

scroll to the beginning of those channels, channels evolve with their audience, so if you start with their earlier videos, they start with basics and move up

so scroll way way way to the beginning of most of those channels to find easier, less complex videos

especially on flux academy, jesse showalter, etc.

Right now I just want to focus on building a great looking website for my business first.

I do appreciate your help πŸ’―πŸ’―

Flux academy is great but very expensive

I think Flux academy has an all access program

again, start at the beginning of that channel, there is so much to learn from flux without paying for it

I have only paid for one course in my whole life and that was the Shift Nudge course - I was class #2. I've been at this for 20 years now. You can definitely learn without paying.

again, if you want a shortcut, pay for a course, it'll work

but if you put in the reps, the time, it can be done without paying for a course

Where can I find the shift nudge course?

Do the teach relume, webflow, and figma??

nope, just figma - but mostly design - pretty rarely is he talking about specific tools

likely not the course I would recommend for you starting out to be honest

It's only showing a subscription for teams

Does he have any monthly subscriptions?

last time I saw pricing I believe it was around $2500-$3500 or something

with 6 month payment plans

guessing he doesn't show pricing, so that he has the flexibility of changing rates one way or the other

once he does open enrollment

I'll just go the free route. These could are way to expensive.

Yeah I see what your saying now.

Figma has a huge platform.

I will take me some time to learn all of this stuff

Also a great trainer of both FIGMA & WEBFLOW is Dan @ BYOL Bring your own laptop - has some great free videos as well as a paid course.
