Curious if people have tried webstudio

At a glance

The post introduces Webstudio, a Webflow clone that aims to address some of Webflow's issues. Webstudio features tokens instead of classes, dedicated unnamed styling, self-hosting, and integration with Notion or Airtable for the CMS. The pricing is described as "insane", with a free plan for 1 project and $20/month for unlimited sites.

In the comments, a community member tried Webstudio for a new website, attracted by the open-source and headless CMS approach, but faced some challenges with the documentation and self-hosting. They ultimately decided to go back to Webflow. Another community member expressed concerns that Webflow may have had more time to address administrative and client experience aspects. A third community member shared that they have only played with Webstudio so far, but intend to use it for smaller projects, and mentioned a fellow Webflow user who became an investor in Webstudio and found it to work well with other tools like Baserow. The interface was described as a bit rougher than Webflow, but the community member felt it would be easy to get comfortable with after a day, once the "token" concept is learned.

Curious if people have tried Webstudio. Looks like a direct Webflow clone that fixes some of its onerous problems – tokens instead of classes (add/remove your classes in any order), dedicated unnamed styling, self-host, source your CMS in Notion or AirTable or or). Also:

Oh snizz, Webstudio’s maker is in here? (@Oleg - webstudio.is)

I tried it. I wanted my new website to be on Webstudio. I was attracted by the open source and the headless CMS approach.

I tried the self hosting approach (cloudflare) and run the builder locally. I faced some challenges when following the doc and after 2 days. I decided to go the safest way and back on Webflow.

@Michael Miello, you got further with Webstudio, right?

Yeah, I worry that Webflow will have had more time to deal with all the little corners. Admin screens, client experience, handoff, etc.

Hi @Lee Fuhr, so I’ve only played with it…haven’t published, but I intend to go forward with it for smaller projects. I did speak to a fellow Webflower who made the switch and mentioned becoming an investor in Webstudio to support it…..he said it works great with pairing with whatever….he used Baserow

In term of playing around, the interface feels a little more rough, but I could imagine after one day feeling pretty confortable since it’s very close to Webflow. As you mentioned, they have a different way to organize classes, they call them tokens I think….once you learn that, should be good!

thanks @Sofian Bettayeb for ping! 🙂

Yeah, I’mma have to find a play project to try it for.
