Adding items with alternating layouts to a collection list

At a glance

The community member is having trouble adding items with alternating layouts (e.g. Layout 409) to a collection list from a CMS. Each item is displayed in a separate list, but they want them in the same list. They also have the same problem with Portfolio 9.

Another community member suggests that for Layout 409, the unique offset based on the card's location makes it difficult to get the display correct if just added to a collection. However, if the items are predictable (e.g. only 3 or 4 cards for Layout 409), the community member could create 4 separate collection lists, each with one card showing, and limit the collection to 1 and start at 1, 2, 3, or 4. This would preserve the unique layout and display.

The original community member confirms that the suggested solution worked.

Hi! Is there a trick to adding items with alternating layouts (e.g. Layout 409) to a collection list (data from CMS)? Each item is displayed in a separate list, but I want them in the same list. Also have the same problem Portfolio 9. Itโ€™s late, so there might be an easy solution that I just donโ€™t see ๐Ÿ˜…

yeah this one is tough. For Layout 409 specifically because of the unique offset based on the card's location, you wouldn't be able to get the display correct if you just threw this into a collection.

However, if the items are going to still be predictable, but you just want to offer up editing in the CMS - meaning you know you will only ever have 3 or 4 cards for Layout 409 - you could still power it with the CMS.

You would essentially create 4 collection lists, each list has one card showing and you'd limit the collection to 1 and start 1, or 2, or 3 or 4. This way you can preserve the unique combo classes and the display.

Thanks ! That worked ๐Ÿ™Œ
